Fermentation control

Can anyone recommend a good refrigerator/temp control for consistent temperature control? I'm mostly doing ales now but in the future I would like to at least try lagering. Any suggestions?

I found two different chest freezers on Craig's list (1 for $50 and 1 for free). Then I bought a Ranco digital controller for about $40 off of ebay (1 for each). So one system would have cost me less than $100 and it's perfect for consistent temp control.

Anything in particular I should be looking for? Do I want a chest or normal freezer?

I'm about to add a freezer to my harware group, I prefer the chest freezer because there is more "floor space". I don't really need the height advantage of an upright freezer.

I use a $10 craigslist fridge with the door shelves removed and an STC-1000 temp controller. After removing the door panel/shelves the fridge can easily hold 4 carboys, or six kegs (1/6 bbls or slim 1/4 bbls). The STC-1000 runs about $20 on e-bay, but requires some wiring.

Whatever works best for you. Any freezer/fridge should work fine.
