Loaded question. Are you batch sparging or fly sparging?

If fly sparging, false bottom wins because a braid will cause channeling.

If batch sparging, either one works but the braid is much cheaper.

Actually, I would argue that the braid will win for batch sparging because you can get away with a finer crush. The braid both filters very well, and the channeling probably helps prevent a stuck sparge, too.
