Default Dope for brass gas fittings?

I always thought torque was the best sealant for brass fittings. I guess I'm wrong. What is best to use to dope brass? Teflon tape? parafin? Keglube?

I use teflon tape. One roll lasts a very long time, and I have several because I can never find the old one.

I actually finished one at the weekend putting on taps and had to go buy a new one. Not that I minded, I love a trip to the hardware store

Teflon for NPT fittings and nothing for flared fittings

Teflon tape is your friend. It's cheap, and prevents leaks, both with gas and fluid.

Just don't overtighten teflon taped joints. Teflon has very little friction under large loads. Stonecutters use it between the wedges used to split granite. It can split brass fittings too. That's why i use dope as an alternative- some times. Plus, the dope hardens and fixes the fittings in one spot, teflon doesn't. so your valves can easily turn around to the wrong angle.

72 batches so far,
48 wine, mostly Loquat, peach, plum, prickly pear
23 beers and ciders
1 sauerkraut
1 Tequila, from a prickly pear wine experiment that didn't work. I call it "Prickly Heat"
