Default DIY Kettle - Part list for spigot and thermometer

Hello there,

I am putting my christmas list together and I think I want to get a kettle upgrade. My Bayou Classic 7 gallon isn't cutting it! My Wort chiller can barely fit!

So with that said, can you tell me that I've got all my parts and pieces in this list?

  1. Kettle: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001CHJI7G/...ustomerReviews
    Spigot: http://www.bargainfittings.com/index.php?
  2. Spigot: http://www.bargainfittings.com/index...product_id=128
  3. Thermometer: http://www.bargainfittings.com/index...product_id=154 (do I need 2", 4", or 6" probe?)
  4. Fittings: http://www.bargainfittings.com/index...&product_id=98

I'm open to suggestions. I new at the kettle assembly thing!

Thanks,
Lorne

I'm pretty new, but have been looking at kettles quite a bit. Since you said you have a wort chiller, you'll probably want the 2"probe our you might have problems putting your chiller in.

Why do you want a thermometer in your kettle? Just curious, not something I have thought of.

i have one in mine and it's useful for several reasons.

1. sometimes my kettle is used to heat strike water
2. to quickly see when it's about to hit a boil
3. to monitor temps when chilling

no...it's not needed, but for $20-$30, it's nice to have.

While I truly like aluminum kettles, at $64 for a 60qt without lid, I would take a hard look at the stainless Concord kettles on eBay. They go on sale at times, and can be had for around $80 - $90.

They also offer a kit including kettle, fittings, thermo, and even a drill bit, of course it is more $$$.
