Default Dark Star Burner?

40 bucks...think it's any good, for 5 gallon batches?

Maybe you could post a pic or a link? I've got no idea what you're talking about.

It's a new product offered by Northern Brewer. A "torch style" propane burner. $39.99. I like the simplicity of the stand design but not sure about the actually burner.

I don't see it anywhere on their site, and a google search reveals nothing for me. Got a link?

I think this type is also called a jet burner. They have more focused heat vs more dispersed like you get with a banjo type.

I use the jet type burner. It works fine for my 15 gallon pot. In theory they can darken light styles due to caramelization, but I haven't had issues that I care about.
Camp chef shp-rl is what I got.

I think the NB will work the same, and it's price competitive. Which is to say, I don't think you would be disappointed in the purchase.

As far as I can tell, it's identical to this
Walmart Link
Edit: (sportsmans guide site doesn't like links)

It's an unbranded chinese burner you can find on alibaba. Not that it's a bad thing. Generic burner sold under many names, whereas camp chef, bayou, etc. seem to have specific styles (probably from the same factory in China).

Fire is hot the whole world 'round.

yeah, mobile link didn't work from my browser either. Fixed it. This one:
http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/king-kooker-12-portable-outdoor-cooker.aspx?a=559859

Scratch that. That site really doesn't like linking. Search for King Cooker 12"

Now that I've completely buggered up the links, this one works: Walmart Link
