Default cooler MLT idea

I have a rectangular cooler that I want to use for a mash tun. It does not have a spigot built into it. I was going to drill a hole in the side to put a valve and SS braid, but I got to thinking ......has any one ever tried to use a siphon technique to sparge. You could attach a hose to your braid or manifold and run it over the side of the cooler and use gravity to siphon off your wort. Will it work or should I just bust out the drill and do it the right way? Thanks - Dirk

I would think that you would have a problem with filtration and getting all the wort out of the cooler with a siphon. Break out the drill and go that route.

I siphoned buck nekkid (no filter of any sort on the racking cane) after getting a stuck sparge my first AG attempt. It worked out just fine.
