Default Converting a vintage 1950s HOTPOINT refrigerator to a kegerator --- need help!

This is my first "attempt" with a vintage kegerator. I have a vintage 1950's HOTPOINT refrigerator that has been turned into a kegerator with a A419 Johnson Temp Controller. I have a SP of 42 which the refrigerator can hit, but I am trying to cool one of my stouts down to 39, but the "kegerator" cannot get that keeps running and running and running with the temp going no lower than 42. I am thinking it may be either a low freon issue or an issue with the kegerator's gaskets (I was running a hose between the gaskets for the "beer gas" and the temp was not getting any lower than 50...pulled that out and the temp dropped to 42). Any suggestions? I do not have any experience with vintage refrigerators at all.
