Default CO2 tank

i finally found the old CO2 tank a friend gave me. how can i tell what capacity it is? it is about 5" dia and 15" high to the threads.
and more importantly, how can you tell if it's empty? it has no tare wt like on a propane tank. it has some gas in it, but i can't tell how much.

Oen the valve and see if anything comes out. My 2.5lb tank is about 14" tall from top of the valve to the bottom of the tank. My 10lb tank is much taller so I would say ethier 2.5lb or maybe 5lb. I do not have a 5lb to measure off of.

CO2 cylinders are required to have a tare weight marking.

Here is some info on reading the crown markings on a co2 cylinder.

sounds like a 5 pounder. are you SURE that it's not marked? is it painted over?
