Default CO2 Purge in carboy?

I am about to transfer my IPA to a secondary carboy and dry hop it. I just got a kegerator and have a co2 tank, so I though I would pump a little CO2 into the head space of the carboy to minimize contact with o2. I figured since the beer is pretty much done fermenting the CO2 production would be down, and this would help a bit. Is this a bad idea?

thanks alot

why cant i get pliny in illinois

I do it with every rack to secondary.. Dunno how much it helps.. Theorhetically you are diluting the Air in the carboy with co2 so it should help a little, but I doubt I ever get all of the air out without using a bunch of c02..

Primary 1&2: Ed Wort's Haus
Primary 3&4: 90 Minute IPA

Secondary 1&2: -----
Secondary 3&4: -----
Secondary 5&6: -----

On Deck: ......

Tap 1: cashed...
Tap 2: Ed Worts Haus
Tap 3: Great Pumpkin Ale
Tap 4: Strange IIPA

You are going to pick up O2 along the way anyway, but it won't hurt. I know brewers that purge there secondary. It is a bit like purging a bottling when counter pressure filling.

Before I learned to brew I was poor, sober and lonely. Now I am just poor.
