Default Cleaning New Aluminum Turkey Fryer Kettle

Greetings all!

I just purchased a 30 qt. Turkey Fryer with kettle last weekend. The kettle has some black streaks of something inside it. I tried to wash them off with dish soap but am having a heck of a time removing the black stuff. Any thoughts on what the black stuff is and what I could use to remove the substance? Would white vinegar be okay? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot!

The black streaks are most likely just the aluminum oxidizing. Clean it as you would any pot, and boil water in it for an hour to further develop the oxidized coating. It is not unusual for aluminum pots to look dark and grey w/ discoleration on the inside.
