Default CDN Thermometer use

I have a CDN ProAccurate probe thermometer (the kind that has a digital face attached to a 6ish-inch probe.

For heating up my strike water, would it be effective and safe for the thermometer to leave the probe stuck into the water via a hole in the lid of my kettle?

How far do I need to insert the thermometer into the water to ensure accurate reading?

Default

It reads at the tip, about the first inch. Yes, it will be fine stuck through the lid.
