Default Cast iron electric burner for starters/flask

I have read here that glass flasks (chemistry style) should not be used on an electric element (spiral metal style). Would using a hot plate with a cast iron burner (electric) work ok? Would the glass still be at risk to crack? I have read about the star shaped metal wire, but I would just rather use a burner without one if cast would work.

Thanks.

Yes, it should be fine so long as the flask is not in direct contact with the electric heating element. The star shaped wire thing is known as a trivet. I use an electric range for boiling starter flasks regularly and never had a problem. My trivet is a burner grate salvaged from a junked gas stove. Never had any problems doing this.

Thanks for the advice, I just don't want to mess up the glass top or have to bust out with propane since I have gone electric. Electric starters here I come!
