Corrosion resistance is improved to some substances for 316 by the addition of 2-3% Molybdenum, but basically for what we would use them for 304 is fine. The fact is 316 valves are more common/standard than 304, I am having a b**ch of a time today getting some 304 valves for nitric acid service. Apperently it is not helped by the common misconception that 316 is always better than 304 as I have heard suppliers offering (or even just sending out the valves without notice) to "upgrade" from 304 to 316 for free even though they have been told it MUST be 304. Sorry for the off topic, just seemed a perfect place to rant about my enjoyable day. /rant

The ones offered in this thread were 316. The ones in the thread I linked to are 304.

316 is typically more expensive.

316 or 304 are either fine for our application.
