Default Aeration Pump Question

I picked up a few odds and ends from someone on craigslist. Included was this aeration system.

Can someone shed some light on how to use this? From what I can tell, the hose coming from the pump plugs into the "In" Side of the filter. I assume I would then have to use another hose to connect the "Out" Side of the filter. Now, how would I attach that to my carboy/fermenter bucket? Also, the filter that it came with has some mold growth, so I'm going to replace it with a new one. Is there any other part that I should worry about cleaning, other than the tubing?

I have the same pump. Northern Brewer sells an Aeration System utilizing your pump. Yes, you need one more tube to go on the output side of the filter and the other end of the tube gets conected to a diffusion stone which goes in your wort. See below:

The stones are available from Northern Brewer for $13.99. NORTHERN BREWER: Aeration

Ok thanks. So other than the stone, I just need to buy some regular 3/8" tubing and is that it? Anything else? Also, what parts need to be sanatized? Everything from the "Out" side of the filter, to the stone?

I don't know how experimental everyone is....but if you have access to the bronze air diffusers used in manufacturing for pneumatic valves, they give much better aeration. I used to use them way back when I was breeding angel fish and discus. The bubble they give as far as air is slightly larger, while they themselves are easy to sanitize (boil for 15 mins in distilled water), and fit on to standard air tube (visit your local fish or pet store). If they should get dirty, a plain old toothbrush and some water work wonders on them.....so, if you know anyone in manufacturing, or are in manufacturing yourself, talk to the skilled trades guys in maintenance and see if you can scam a couple. I used to like to take 2 and put them on an air "T" for a 125 gal tank. It would keep 20 discus alive just fine in an empty tank......that should be more than enough aeration for beer, no?

Thats all you need. You aerate after the wort has cooled so regular old vinyl tubing will work just fine. Don't forget you need the difusion stone also. I sanitize anything that touches the wort.
