Default 32Q kettle conversion

I have a 32Q pot I'm planning on using as a boil pot and want to add a thermometer and ball valve to it. I am just wondering what size drill bit is used to drill the hole for the ball valve and the thermometer?

You'll need a step bit like this to drill the hole for the ball valve.

Outstanding. I have a Harbor Freight right up the road from me.
So 1/2" for the ball valve but what size hole for thermo?

I would test as you drill with the step bit. If you get the hole too big, you're outta luck!
