Default 2 quick questions about my new march pump

just got my march pump from USApumps. i gave it a test run and it worked great. i want to be able to use it to transfer from MLT to keggle (amongst other things), but i have two questions about rigging it up. first, do i open the ball valve on the MLT all the way and just use the valve on the OUTPUT of the pump to control flow? this is what i gather, but i want to make sure i dont do it wrong and suck all my grain into the pump or something. secondly, i have already installed a 3/8 ball valve assempbly on my cooler MLT and i want to get the quick disconnects from mcmaster carr. could somebody familiar with these things tell me if this mcmaster carr fitting is what i need (PN 6739k57)? i'm guessing it would thread into a 3/8 ball valve but allow me to connect to the 1/2 tubing like the rest of the system. is this correct? thanks!

Yes, keep the valve of the MLT open to prime the pump then when the pump is running control the flow with the outlet side of the pump only.

That McMaster fitting looks correct. You will then obviously need the female end of the QD at 1/2" if that's what your tubing is at.
