Progression of Hops Over a Growing Season (Pictures)

When I first started growing hops, I had hundreds of questions. What the use as fertilizer? When to plant? When are they ready to harvest? Etc., etc., etc.

Because of this, I've decided to post pictures and information on what I did throughout my growing season. These are a group of first year hops that I added to my garden this year. I wanted to stick with first year hops because that's when people have the most questions.

Randall the Enamel Animal (Build Process)

In my last blog, I said I would detail the build process of my Randall. Here goes.

Most of the process can be seen at the Maltose Falcon's website. They are who came up with the homebrew version of Dogfish Head's Randall. The reason I wanted to do a blog about the build process is because I didn't see enough pictures of this thing before I had the pleasure of building it. This led to some setbacks.

As my official first blog here on Homebrewtalk, I would like to say how thrilled I am about my new Randall.

For those who aren't "In the know", a Randall (or Randall the Enamel Animal as Dogfish Head Brewery so cleverly named it) is used for running kegged beer through fresh leaf hops, then into the glass. This makes for a very pungent, very fresh, very delicious hop flavor.

My love affair with the Randall started when I was in search of a huge hoppy...
