I Need A Fricken Job!

Damn - My post count is too high. I'm in need of a job. Right now I'm addicted to the "I hate Bill O'Reilly" Thread and the "Never Ending Word Thread".
I have applied to at least 75 jobs in the last 4 months only to have 8 follow-up interviews. Each interview results in we have decided not to hire anybody right now. I'm thinking WTF? Is this true or are they to passive to say "We didn't farkin' like you! Kiss-off."

Good luck with your job search. How much experience do you have interviewing? Many times local job services offer free classes on interviewing skills. Employers are also looking at experience, how many jobs you've held, how long you stay with an employer, how long you've been out of work, your appearance, eye contact, hand shake, sincerity, and other interviewing skills. The job market is tight and you're competing with a lot of other people.
That being said, I also hire for our company and what you're describing sounds suspiciously like my version of "We don't farkin' like you! Kiss off." |

Actually - I believe that I interview well. I do my homework. I have good questions to ask and not the self-centered ones. I have a good appearance, fresh hair cut, clean shaven, good power suit, charcoil gray with the red tie. I use the firm handshake, well prepped on questions like "tell me about yourself". I ask questions about the postion and company and I ask for the job when the interview ends.
I think its just tight and people are scaling back. My earlier blog post was from when I was informed that another candidate knew the person in the position and talked to the guy. This started a HR nightmare for those people. A restructuring or a firing was in the works. This shut the door on that opportunity. Needless to say I was pissed. I lost one opportunity because a company did not get chosen on a bid, another decided not to move their office to Des Moines. It been alot of that stuff. I got a nice email from a local company that confirmed that I did well on the interview. They just decided the position would be located in St. Paul. They felt that market area was stronger. |

Well, as I said, good luck. It sounds like you're doing the right things and not asking about vacations and benefits right off the bat before finding out about the job.
What line of work are you in? Do you have a CDL?? Want to move to Omaha? :-) |

I am an engineer. I have specialty in CNC Machining and automation. However my most recent experience is in project management.
Thanks for the good luck wishes. I really want to stay in Des Moines. |

I start my new job tomorrow morning!
I don't think it was me. The market was and still is tight. That said companies wait for the right person. If the candidate isn't a perfect match they decided to wait until the match is perfect. The other case can be true that they need somebody ASAP and they need somebody that is deemed good enough. In my case I think its the latter not mention they are getting a hands-on engineer whereas the other guy they fired did nothing but send emails. Time to pack... |
