Brewery Update 10-13-11

Posted 10-13-2011 at 10:52 AM by Ace_Club
Last month marked the ten year anniversary of my brewing endeavors. So I decided to take a day off of work and brew up a bunch of beer/mead. In order to ensure good fermentation temps in my basement, that would mean finishing my fermentation chamber which has been sitting unfinished since March.

With a little work sealing up the seams and finishing the door, I was able to finish the build on 10/8. The build process can be found in this thread: http://www.homebrewtalk.com/f51/my-fermentation-chamber-build-229150/....

Brewery Update 7-5-2011

Posted 07-05-2011 at 09:07 PM by Ace_Club
Brewed another 10-gallon batch on the basketball post system on 6-28-11. This was 10 gallons of a Fat Tire clone and is the last batch of beer that was needed for the big party happening on 7-16-11. The brewday went flawlessly and the beer was fermenting within 3 hours of pitching the yeast.

I will say that hand cranking the Corona mill for crushing the grains is tiring work. I definitely need to modify the mill so that I can power it with a drill before the next brewday.

Brewery Update 6-19-11

Posted 06-19-2011 at 02:46 PM by Ace_Club
Since the last post, I was able to get another brew session in on my Basketball Post 3-Tier setup.

That brew session was a Moose Drool clone based on the "Can You Brew It" recipe. It came out well, although I ended up a little high on the OG due to a much higher than expected efficiency. No worries, though, as I'm sure it will turn out just fine.

I'm planning on brewing my next ten gallon batch, a Fat Tire clone, later this week.

I broke in...

First All-Grain in the Books.

It's been just over a week since I brewed my first all-grain batch on my new system. You can find the details of the brew and setup in my build thread.

The brew session went well, with oversparging being the only minor hiccup in the day. 11 gallons of Haus Pale Ale (EdWort's recipe) have now been fermenting for 8 days. Next weekend I will keg them up and the week after should be brewing the Fat Tire clone recipe.

Zero progress has been made on my fermentation chamber build....

Gearing up for All-Grain

Posted 02-01-2011 at 01:38 AM by Ace_Club
I need to have my All-Grain setup ready to brew by March (or April at the latest) of this year in order to make the 30 gallons required for my in-laws 40th wedding anniversary party.

My setup will consist of a three-tier gravity system with the HLT and BK bolted to my basketball post (4" x 4" tube steel). The HLT and BK are converted kegs, and the MLT is a Coleman Xtreme 70 qt. cooler.

This past weekend, I finally got around to finishing the MLT. I utilized...
